OLYMPIC boxing champ Nicola Adams has revealed her mum is battling breast cancer.
The double gold medal winner said she put her career on hold after 57-year-old Dee was diagnosed in May.
But after winning her first fight since then she told how her mum inspired her to get back in the ring.
She said: "I took a little bit of time off to stay with my mum and to make sure she was OK.
"I wasn't sure about boxing with all this going on but she actually wanted me to fight tonight.
"She said, 'I don't want you to think about me, I want you to fulfil your dreams and become a world champion'.
"I'm very close to her and she wanted me to help raise awareness for breast cancer so I had the logo on my shorts and my top tonight."
Nicola, 35, stopped Uruguayan veteran Soledad Macedo in the third round in Montreal, Canada, on Saturday night.
It was her third win since turning professional after retaining her flyweight gold medal at the Rio Olympics last year.
She has her eye on a world title challenge next year.
She said: "My mum has given me even more inspiration than I had and more motivation than I had before. I want to do it for her, get this world title for her."
Nicola, from Leeds, said her mum was responding well to radiotherapy treatment.
She added: "She's a really strong character." Nicola has previously told how she defended her mum against her violent dad during her childhood, once as a toddler with a plastic sword.
Her mum worked two jobs to help fund her daughter's dream of being an Olympic boxer.
