Nearly 13 months removed from hosting his first boxing event, Dr. Andrew Foy thinks his sixth will feature the best card yet.
Professional boxing returns to Harrisburg on Saturday, August 4 as Foy's company, Titans Boxing Promotions, LLC, presents a seven-fight card featuring an eight-round main event between Terrance Williams (4-2-1) and Shakeem Hodge (5-1-1) for the vacant World Boxing Foundation United States Middleweight title.
Williams, a Cameron Street Boxing Club member, fought Hodge, a Reading native, to a draw in their April 21 title fight at the Zembo Shrine. One judge gave Williams the victory, one judge had it for Hodge and the third judge scored it a draw.
The Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center is set to host the rematch.
Foy anticipates the title bout will be a "high-level fight."
"It was a great fight. Both sides thought they did enough to win," said Foy, recalling Williams' first battle with Hodge. "Both sides were extremely enthusiastic about doing it again. Both fighters probably trained harder this time."
In the co-main event, Philadelphia's Jamaal Davis (16-13-1), the WBF United States Super Middleweight champion, draws Blake Mansfield (6-1-1) in a six-round middleweight bout.
After fighting at 168 pounds, Davis is down to 154 pounds for this fight. The drop in weight means Davis, who now lives and trains in Harrisburg, will not be defending his title against the Burlington, North Carolina native.
Foy said Davis has moved down in weight in order to "keep himself in contention for 'big fights' in the future."
"This looks like a very even matchup on paper," Foy said. "It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Both guys will be coming into the fight with a winning mentality."
A six-round super lightweight bout between Harrisburg's Roy McGill (4-1) and Lebanon's Luis Rodriguez (3-8) adds more intrigue to the undercard. McGill's first six-round fight figures to be the toughest of his young career.
Another Lebanon boxer, Nick Hernandez (8-3), takes on Harrisburg's Daniel Lugo (3-8) in a four-round junior middleweight bout.
Foy thinks Hernandez, who has become a popular attraction in Lebanon, will have his hands full against Lugo despite the latter's win-loss record.
"Danny is an extremely tough fighter," Foy said. "He went all over the place fighting high-level prospects. The record doesn't represent Danny that well. He loves the sport and he's a training machine. This will be another great fight."
A trio of Harrisburg fighters - super lightweight Rick Pyle (1-0), light heavyweight Carl Murphy (1-1) and lightweight Luis "Mayhem" Morales (2-0) - will each be engaging in four-round fights in their respective weight classes.
