Boxer accused of diving after being KO'd by Tim Tszyu in super-welterweight title bout

INDONESIAN boxer Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus has come under fire from fans after being accused of diving during his bout against up-and-coming Australian Tim Tszyu.

The 37-year-old was knocked out just one minute into his super-welterweight clash despite replays showing minimal contact.

Tszyu is the son of former undisputed light-welterweight champion Kostya and moved to 10-0 after successfully defending his WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental belt.

But the manner of the 23-year-old’s victory has raised questions after Ferdinandus went down after a straight right to the head.

He subsequently dropped to the canvas, and stayed down as he refused to beat the count during the contest in Sydney.

Replays showed the Indonesian fighter barely being touched leading many supporters to label the southpaw as a disgrace to boxing.

Although Tszyu stressed it was a shot to the temple that forced the knockdown, the boxing community wasn’t having any of it.

The bout was on the undercard of the Billy Dib-Tevin Farmer fight.

The world title fight ended with a win for Farmer as the American dropped the veteran Australian in nine rounds.

Following the bout, Dib said, “This is the last time you’ll see me in the boxing ring.”
