Filipino former world champion Milan Melindo is all set to challenge Japan’s Ken Shiro for the WBC junior flyweight title Sunday night at Yokohama Arena in Japan.
Despite initially going over the weight limit when he tipped the scales at 109 pounds, Melindo made weight on his second try, at 107.5 pounds, according to PhilBoxing.com.
Shiro, on the other hand, weighed 107.75 pounds.
The camp of Melindo wasn’t worried much about the weight issue.
"One pound lang naman 'yung over," trainer Edito Villamor said in a story posted in Spin.ph. "Madali naman niya nakuha 'yung timbang on his second try." (LINK ON SPIN https://www.spin.ph/boxing/milan-melindo-ken-shiro-wbc-light-flyweight-championship-a793-20181006)
Melindo will attempt to win his second world title after losing his IBF crown to Ryoichi Taguchi of Japan on New Year’s eve last year.
“El Metodico” is the more experienced fighter with a record of 37-3, 13 KOs, while Shiro holds a 13-0, 7 KOs record.
Shiro, however, won his last 2 bouts by stoppages.
