A BOXING coach attacked a referee with a flurry of punches after his man was issued a controversial points loss.
In the quarter-finals of the Kazakh Federation Cup – in Gennady Golovkin’s home nation of Kazakhstan – the official was attacked by an unnamed trainer.
A bout between junior world champion Rakhat Marzhikpaev and Aman Kazangapov ended in a defeat for Mr Marzhikpaev, which his unnamed coach felt was unfair.
The raging cornerman was filmed arguing with and then punching fight referee Amangeldy Aksholakov.
The boxing official was no pushover and - after receiving two blows – he stands his ground and swings one back at him.
Defeated Mr Marzhikpaev then runs to his coach’s aid, throwing a punch at Mr Aksholakov before being restrained by nearby men.
Kazakh Boxing Federation representative Bolat Abdrakhmanov said the boxer and his coach would both be suspended from the sport for a period yet to be decided.
He added: "We will try to make a decision that will serve as an example to others and will guarantee security of other referees in the future."
Referee Mr Aksholakov said: "To be honest, I did not expect it.
"This is the first time I have ever experienced this.
“The conflict happened due to the fact that the coach did not see the second knock-down of his athlete, and decided that he was deliberately poorly judged."
The man added that later the coach came to him and apologised.
But he added: "I can understand him on a personal level.
"But of course such incidents should not be left unpunished."
