GENNADY GOLOVKIN'S controversial draw with Canelo Alvarez was the third-biggest ever fight in terms of gate receipts.
In figures published by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the mega-fight at the T-Mobile Arena generated £20m from 17,318 tickets sold.
There were 934 complimentary tickets made available for the fight.
It trails two fights involving the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr, who of course retired undefeated a number of weeks ago after beating Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena.
That fight generated just over £41m from 13,094 tickets sold. It was clear from the coverage broadcast around the world, that a huge number of seats simply priced people out.
But the biggest selling fight ever was Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao back in May 2015.
It was a clash that boxing fans had been yearning for years, but when it finally happened, it was all a bit of a damp squib as Mayweather won on a unanimous points decision.
Gate receipts totalled around £53.9m, with 16, 219 tickets sold at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
SunSport reported earlier today how Canelo Alvarez wants the Golovkin rematch to be his very next fight in 2018.
The Mexico hero tried to dethrone the middleweight champ on September 16 but was handed a controversial draw in a one-sided show most observers gave to the defending Kazakh king.
Canelo has been sent on holiday by his Golden Boy team but, after helping victims of the devastating earthquake in Mexico, he attended an WBA convention in nearby Colombia.
There he said: “I want it to be my first fight of 2018.
"I do not want another fight that is not the tiebreaker with Golovkin, and that's what we're going to try to do.
"I feel that I was the winner, but that's boxing.
"I told everyone that it would be a great fight, I feel very happy with what I did.
"The people were happy and now they want to see the rematch.”
