Zuffa Boxing's Attempts To Lure Joshua Threatens Al Haymon's Supremacy

This is a power play, and a declaration that Zuffa Boxing is determined to be a contender and challenger to the boxing world's established order. It means Zuffa LLC is going to try replicate what the UFC has done to MMA: think umbrella and monopolize.

Heavyweight boxing champion and England’s Joshua, who in just five years as a professional has become one of the highest-paid, biggest stars in the sport today is the promotional power UFC president Dana White can use. Why not start at the top? Thus, Mr. White is supposedly going to attend Joshua's forthcoming title bout against Joseph Parker this Saturday in Cardiff, Wales.

The gauntlet thrown down came with an audacious bid to sign a promotional multi-fight deal with Anthony Joshua, which could earn the Londoner $500 million, and lure him away from Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Promotions. Acquiring Joshua would elevate Zuffa LLC, gifting them sizable leverage in the boxing world, and grant them significant influence to begin their transformation of boxing's structure.

This is because Zuffa LLC, re-imaging itself as an entertainment company, is aiming to create its own league, with its own regulations, signed fighters and not be regulated or co-opted by other promoters. Establishing a league, that ensures a singular authority for recognizing belts instead of a plethora of different organizations and boxing bodies, each having their own championship belts and champions, is attractive.

Presently, the myriad of belts, champions, and organizations really dilutes recognizing champions within boxing, and perpetually nullifies their credibility. You may be a champion in the World Boxing Championship, but there's an International Boxing Federation champion, as well as World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization champions. and seventeen weight divisions spread between them.

If Zuffa Boxing was to rapidly grow, like a rapacious amoeba, it could afford to not cooperate with co-promoters, and amalgamate greater allure as a singularly unified league, equating itself with boxing as the UFC has equated itself with MMA in the mind of sports fans and participants.

Dana White, a fan of boxing, knows Joshua would jump-start that process. Also, if Joshua were to defeat Parker, succumb to Dana's advances, and then fight and defeat World Boxing Championship champion Deontay Wilder, unifying all four major belts, and creating an undisputed heavyweight division champion, Zuffa Boxing would be his gatekeeper.

To fight for one of those belts, fighters would have to work with Zuffa Boxing, granting them leverage and credibility, and eventually, the monopoly of power over Joshua would act as a magnate to fill an empty roster and birth a succinct, regulated, and monopolized league under Zuffa Boxing.

In the beginning, Zuffa Boxing will work within the existing boxing structures, but they're here to tear the temple down and ultimately usurp the loose confederation of boxing organizations, becoming a uni-polar promotions powerhouse within boxing.

Zuffa Boxing is a long dreamt project for expanding Zuffa LLC's reach, and last week, as the UK's Telegraph reported, threw down the gauntlet and offered - reportedly - Anthony Joshua an obscene amount of money, declaring itself to be serious in establishing Zuffa Boxing.
